Tôi viết Hồng Gai bởi những trăn trở về số phận của nhan sắc. Như một phần cuộc đời mình đã chứng kiến muôn vàn cám dỗ, sa ngã, thăng trầm và cả sự khinh bạc của người đời dành cho kiếp hồng nhan.
Trời cho một nhan sắc, hiển nhiên là điều danh giá ở đời.
Nhưng tất thảy đều quá phù phiếm, khi người trước ngưỡng tàn phai.
Trong Hồng Gai là sự tái hiện thời xuân sắc của hai số phận nữ nhân giữa nhịp sống xô bồ, hiện đại bằng trí nhớ. Một ký ức chẳng gọi rõ tên của nhân vật “Nàng” vô định ngang qua cuộc đời 13 người đàn ông có vợ. Thiên ngoại tình tưởng như dài đằng đẵng vậy mà cũng đã khép lại sau chưa đầy mười năm. Chớp mắt, nụ hồng thủa xưa đã rụng rơi từng cánh, lưu lại héo tàn cùng bao gai nhọn cho một định mệnh vô thường. Một cô gái tên Lyn trải cuộc đời già một phần tư thế kỷ với những suy nghiệm về tình yêu – lối sống. Buông mình vào bản năng và phản kháng khốc liệt trước sự giả tạo, dối lừa trong tình yêu, đến cuối lắng mình khỏi những khổ đau chỉ đọng lại nỗi đơn độc bàng hoàng. Thời tuổi trẻ ấy vừa chớm qua, người cũng đủ xót xa, mới hiểu mình đã sống và cần phải sống lại như thế nào.
Nếu bạn là một người đức hạnh, sẽ thấy trong Hồng Gai ngập mùi buông thả. Lối sống quay cuồng đã xô ngã rất nhiều giá trị cổ điển, để rồi từng thân phận phải chật vật đứng dậy bằng bản lĩnh chai cứng và gai góc của mình. Tôi chia sẻ với những cuộc đời như thế. Tôi không mong ai ai cũng sẽ thích tác phẩm của mình. Bởi vậy xin bạn đọc lưu ý dòng khuyến cáo ngay đầu quyển sách trước khi có ý định tìm hiểu thế giới của Hồng Gai.

Keng vẽ ra một bức tranh xám xịt về tình yêu với những toan tính, vụ lợi, giả tạo, đổi chác và đầy thù hận… Cái gọi là thân phận của người phụ nữ thật khó khiến người ta cảm thấy đau, bởi tất cả những bi kịch cảm xúc đến với nhân vật đều bắt đầu từ lối sống buông thả, nổi loạn đáng sợ của họ.
Sự trở lại của tác giả Dị bản Keng – Đỗ Thị Thùy Linh qua tác phẩm mới Hồng gai – về nhan sắc danh giá phù phiếm (ChiBooks và NXB Văn học ấn hành) không khiến độc giả bất ngờ. Bởi sau thành công từ cuốn sách đầu tay, Keng đã nói rằng sẽ tiếp tục viết và sớm ra mắt tác phẩm mới. Nhưng có vẻ như cây bút trẻ 26 tuổi này đã không làm mới mình bằng một tác phẩm mới đi theo chiều hướng khác mà vẫn chọn cách khai thác yếu tố sex với nhiều ngôn từ còn mạnh bạo hơn cả trong Dị bản.
Hình ảnh những người trẻ va vấp trong tình yêu tiếp tục được trở lại ở Hồng gai – về nhan sắc danh giá phù phiếm bằng hai câu chuyện vừa: Hồi ức cánh hồng và Trái tim đầy vết gai đâm. Các nhân vật nữ bước đi lầm lạc để rồi chịu nhiều giày vò, mất mát, đau khổ. Nhưng cái gọi là thân phận của người phụ nữ thật khó khiến người ta cảm thấy đau, bởi tất cả những bi kịch cảm xúc đến với nhân vật đều bắt đầu từ lối sống buông thả, tự do đến mức ngông nghênh, nổi loạn đáng sợ của họ. Keng vẽ ra một bức tranh xám xịt về tình yêu với những toan tính, vụ lợi, giả tạo, đổi chác và đầy thù hận. Tác giả chọn một góc khuất, mặt trái của tình yêu để khai thác. Mà đó cũng là con đường dễ dàng hơn để những yếu tố sex được khai thác liên tục có vẻ như rất “đúng thời điểm”. Ngay từ trang đầu quyển sách, tác giả đã viết: “Đừng đọc khi không thể sẻ chia. Đừng đọc khi chưa từng mất mát. Đừng đọc nếu bạn thấy mình chưa đủ lớn!”. Xét cho cùng, đây cũng chỉ là một cách khơi dậy sự tò mò của độc giả giống như đã từng làm với Dị bản, khi ngay bìa sách in hẳn dòng chữ “Chỉ đọc khi đã 18 tuổi”.
Đã có nhiều tác phẩm văn học nước ngoài khai thác yếu tố sex. Văn học Việt Nam cũng không quá khắt khe với điều đó. Nhưng sự “khai thác triệt để” các ngôn từ cho việc miêu tả sex của Keng khiến cho gần như những hành động, lời nói, suy nghĩ của nhân vật cuối cùng đều dẫn đến hành vi tình dục như thể đó là mục đích dẫn dắt câu chữ vậy.
Ở Hồi ức cánh hồng là hình ảnh cô gái trẻ với những cuộc tình đưa gió đưa mây với 11 người đàn ông đã có vợ. Và xuyên suốt câu chuyện không có gì khác ngoài sự lả lơi thân xác. Cảm giác cay đắng của cô gái sau mỗi cuộc vui được kéo dài bằng những con chữ để tiếp tục đi đến một bước sa ngã vào tay người khác, chuỗi ngày xoay vòng trong những bước đi dễ dãi. Cô gái có thể ngủ qua đêm với bất kỳ người đàn ông nào cho dù chỉ mới quen, đến mức đặt cho những người đi qua đời mình bằng những danh xưng “Đàn ông có vợ 1″, “Đàn ông có vợ 2″, “Đàn ông có vợ 3″… Còn trong Trái tim đầy vết gai đâm cũng lại thấy một lối sống buông thả của một nhân vật nữ khác. Chỉ khác hơn là tình yêu biến hóa trong thế giới của những người trẻ và không quá nhiều toan tính mà là những cảm xúc bị bỏ quên, lạc lõng trong dòng trôi mải miết của mỗi người. Những nhân vật đầy cá tính nhưng lại thiếu trách nhiệm, sự sa ngã đến không chừng mực.
Có cảm giác tác giả cố gieo mình vào những khám phá với cuộc phiêu lưu cùng con chữ để có thể miêu tả chuyện tình dục ở nhiều góc độ và những “khái niệm từ” khác nhau. Tác giả gần như liên tục tạo tình huống để nhân vật “có điều kiện” tiến đến những cuộc ái ân và ngôn từ miêu tả cũng được thả lỏng đến đỉnh của sự phóng khoáng. Cô gái 23 tuổi trượt dài trong những cuộc tình sa ngã già dặn đến mức không còn nhìn thấy được ở nhân vật một sức sống nhiệt huyết của tuổi trẻ mà gần như chỉ có những “kinh nghiệm tình trường” làm hành trang để sống.
Cảm giác mất mát của những nhân vật vẫn được lồng vào trang viết. Keng chọn những kết thúc gọi là có hậu cho các nhân vật của mình sau khi đã để họ trượt dài trong lầm lỗi. Nhưng làm sao độc giả có thể thật sự đồng cảm với nhân vật khi phải đối diện với một cảm xúc khác thuộc về sự trả giá và khái niệm thứ tha?
Hẳn nhiên, tác giả có quyền lựa chọn nhân vật. Song sự lựa chọn của Keng gần như đã đi theo một lối mòn khi vẫn là những nhân vật sống phóng khoáng và tác phẩm cũng hướng nhiều về yếu tố sex như đã từng gặp trong Dị bản. Không ai có thể áp đặt đường đi cho những người viết trẻ, nhưng vẫn kỳ vọng ở họ sự khám phá những lối đi mới để khẳng định được mình. Keng đang giẫm lên lối mòn mà chính bản thân cô đã đi qua.

So với cuốn Dị bản thì cuốn này hay hơn. Không thể nói là rất hay nhưng tôi xem nó như tạm ổn. 2 truyện ngắn đã làm tôi cảm thấy vừa lòng. Những tình tiết viết về sex cũng không thô kệch như xưa. Có thể nói Keng đã dần tiến bộ. Dù nói về những chủ đề khá nhạy cảm nhưng nó vẫn để lại trong lòng người đọc những cảm thông sâu sắc, những dư âm ngọt ngào và chen lẫn cay đắng.
Đây là câu chuyện xứng đáng để đọc, nên có mặt trên tủ sách nhà bạn

Tôi đã đọc và cảm thấy được sự mất mát của nhân vật, đắm chìm trong những suy nghĩ mông lung “rất phụ nữ “, nhân vật nữ liên tục rơi từ vòng xoáy này sang vòng xoáy khác, có những tính toán, có những âm mưu và cũng có những ngây ngô đến tội nghiệp, cô bé từ những cao sang của tay chơi đến rơi vào tay của những con ác thú đội lốt người,xúông cùng cực của cuộc đời, rồi lại bình thản trước những quyến rũ đời thường . em vừa mạnh mẽ, vừa quyến rũ, vừa yếu đuối và ngây thơ, tôi không dám đọc truyện lần thứ 2 vì tôi sợ tôi sẽ chìm đắm vào nỗi đau của em.
