Theo Charles Brymer, CEO of Interbrand Scheter, thương hiệu “trademark”, mà đối với khách hàng nó đại diện cho một sự cuốn hút, tổng thể giá trị hay những thuộc tính nhất định. Nó lớn hơn một sản phẩm rất nhiều. Sản phẩm được tạo ra từ nhà máy. Sản phẩm chỉ có thể trở thành một nhãn hiệu chỉ khi nó là biểu tượng của các yếu tố hữu hình, vô hình và tâm lý. Một điểm quan trọng cần phải nhớ là nhãn hiệu không được tạo ra bởi những nhà sản xuất. Nhãn hiệu chỉ tồn tại trong mắt của khách hàng.
Đối với bất kỳ ai mới làm quen với thuật ngữ về thương hiệu thì việc cố gắng hiểu một cách chính xác thương hiệu là gì quả là việc rất khó khăn, thậm chí ngay cả khi bạn đang cố tìm kiếm những câu trả lời đơn giản nhất. Việc xây dựng thương hiệu đã từng rất được quan tâm trong suốt năm 1990, tuy có rất nhiều người muốn thực hiện một kế hoạch xây dựng thương hiệu nhưng bản thân họ vẫn không có một kiến thức gì về thương hiệu.
Sáp nhập 2 thương hiệu có nghĩa là tạo thêm giá trị cho 1 thương hiệu và loại bỏ giá trị của 1 thương hiệu khác. Sau khi sáp nhập thì thông thường chỉ còn 1 thương hiệu được tồn tại. Vì mục đích của sáp nhập là làm tăng tổng giá trị của thương hiệu đó, vì vậy mọi hoạt động bên cạnh việc sáp nhập phải được đánh giá về tài chính, về hoạt động, về pháp lý , pháp nhân, công nghệ và rất nhiều yếu tố khác.
Khi một sự kết hợp thương hiệu mạnh có thể làm gia tăng giá trị tập đoàn và thiết lập kế hoạch lâu dài, tạo dựng một vị thế độc đáo trên thị trường và đánh bóng tên tuổi công ty và đặc biệt là làm tăng tiềm năng lãnh đạo trong tập đoàn. Bởi thế sự kết hợp thương hiệu có thể làm gia tăng ảnh hưởng lên tài sản hữu hình và tài sản vô hình dẫn tới việc thương hiệu sẽ vượt trội thông qua tập đoàn.
Hoạt động tài trợ được xem như một công cụ marketing và đem lại hiệu quả cao hơn hẳn về nhiều mặt so với việc thiết lập sự nhận biết thương hiệu thông qua quảng cáo. Tuy nhiên việc sử dụng nó để đem lại lợi ích cao nhất là một thách thức lớn cho các nhà quản trị marketing – đó là việc làm cách nào để xây dựng chiến dịch tài trợ đúng đối tượng, đúng thời điểm, sử dụng chi phí hợp lý và, quan trọng nhất là, nằm trong chiến lược xây dựng và phát triển thương hiệu tập đoàn.
“Câu chuyện thương hiệu” cho khách hàng biết doanh nghiệp là ai và hoạt động trong lĩnh vực nào. Và đó là những truyện kể hết sức đặc biệt mang yếu tố chiến lược cao, từng chương từng hồi được viết theo sự tồn tại và phát triển của thương hiệu theo thời gian để đáp ứng lại những thay đổi trong thị trường và nhu cầu của khách hàng.
Là lời tuyên ngôn về một vị trí mà công ty mơ ước rằng sản phẩm hay thương hiệu của mình có thể chiếm giữ được trong tâm trí khách hàng. Trong marketing, định vị được xem là linh hồn của một kế hoạch truyền thông hiệu quả. Một bản tuyên bố định vị tốt sẽ giúp bạn xác định được phương hướng chính xác cho cả công ty.
Franchising được người Mỹ khởi xướng và định nghĩa như sự liên kết hợp đồng giữa phía chuyển giao (nhà sản xuất hoặc tổ chức dịch vụ) với người nhận chuyển giao (người kinh doanh độc lập). Người chuyển giao cho mượn thương hiệu và hệ thống kinh doanh bao gồm tất cả các cách thức quản lý. Còn người nhận chuyển giao chi trả tiền bản quyền thuê thương hiệu và tiền phí để được kinh doanh với tên và hệ thống của nhà chuyển giao.
Có rất nhiều nghiên cứu để đo lường phần đóng góp của thương hiệu vào giá trị của cổ đông, trong đó thành công nhất phải kể đến cuộc nghiên cứu “Những thương hiệu mạnh nhất toàn cầu” của Interbrand. Cuộc nghiên cứu đã rút ra kết luận: trung bình, thương hiệu đóng góp một phần ba vào giá trị cổ phiếu. Ở nhiều trường hợp, thương hiệu có thể nắm hơn 70% giá trị cổ phiếu.
Product Placement là cách sử dụng tích hợp giữa sản phẩm hay thương hiệu cần quảng cáo với kênh truyền thông giải trí không nhằm mục đích chiêu thị trực tiếp đối với sản phẩm.Nói một cách dễ hiểu hơn, PP là khi nhà quảng cáo chi trả một số tiền cho nhà sản xuất phim nhằm khuếch trương sản phẩm của mình trong phim .
Tài sản thương hiệu bao gồm tất cả những giá trị đặc thù mà thương hiệu mang đến cho những người liên quan (khách hàng, nhân viên, cổ đông, cộng đồng…). Những giá trị này sẽ được cộng vào sản phẩm hay dịch vụ nhằm để gia tăng giá trị đối với những người liên quan. Những thành tố cấu thành tài sản thương hiệu này phải được kết nối với biểu tượng, logo của công ty hoặc sản phẩm.
Thông thường có 3 cách đặt tên thương hiệu. Đặt tên theo cách “mô tả” (descriptive naming) qua việc mô tả sản phẩm hay dịch vụ mà công ty cung cấp (ví dụ như Anycall…). Đặt tên “liên tưởng” (associative naming) nhằm để nói đến một khía cạnh hoặc lợi ích của sản phẩm hay dịch vụ (ví dụ như VISA…). Hoặc đặt tên theo một cách “tự do” (freestanding naming) không có một liên hệ gì đến với sản phẩm hoặc dịch vụ (ví dụ máy tính Apple…)
Hợp tác thương hiệu là sự kết hợp giữa 2 thương hiệu sản phẩm khác nhau để cho ra đời một sản phẩm, dịch vụ mới, mà chúng thường là một thứ sẽ không thể thành công được nếu như chỉ có 1 trong 2 đối tác làm toàn bộ sản phẩm. Hợp tác thương hiệu là sự kết hợp của chuyên môn, danh tiếng và ý nghĩa thông điệp của từng đối tác trong suy nghĩ của người tiêu dùng.
Định vị thương hiệu là việc tạo ra vị thế riêng biệt của thương hiệu trong một môi trường cạnh tranh để bảo đảm rằng mỗi người tiêu dùng trong thị trường mục tiêu có thể phân biệt được thương hiệu ấy với các thương hiệu cạnh tranh khác. Việc định vị thương hiệu mang tính chất quan trọng là do nó có liên quan trực tiếp đến suy nghĩ và nhận định của người tiêu dùng.
